20 Week Ultrasound

We were over the moon happy that we got to see our beautiful little baby this morning! I wish we could take that ultrasound machine home with us, but it is probably a good thing we can’t! We would watch it all day and never leave!

Overall doctor’s notes from today, baby and I are both doing exceptionally well. In her words we are “textbook” worthy right now! Always a delightful thing to hear! This was a nice pick me up for myself as well. The mixture of heat and being pregnant has just made me feel like a freaking hot air balloon! My hands and feet are are starting to swell…so much so that the wedding ring is off Ā šŸ™ I was worried because I read that swelling can be a symptom of high blood pressure or preeclampsia. Fortunately, my blood pressure is superb and there are no other signs of anything other than water retention! I felt like I had gained so much weight only to find out thisĀ morningĀ I have only gained 1lb from my pre pregnancy weight! I have always had issues with my weight and not being entirely happy with my body image. Up until last week I was loving my pregnant body, but then I started to feel kind of down about ALL the changes going on. I think a lot of women go through this feeling, at least that is what I keep reading! So it makes me feel a little better that I’m not the only one. I just keep reminding myself that this body of mine is doing exactly what it needs to in order to keep this baby strong and healthy, which is way more important than my own personal pride. Just need to keep eating right and exercising, which has mainly been in the pool because it is way too hot outside! Good thing I was a swimmer growing up!

As for that little baby body, it is comfortably using my bladder as a pillow and weighing in at 11oz. It is measuring at about 20wks 2 days which is great because I will be officially 20 weeks on Thursday. The baby had its back to us the whole time resting its face on its arm (exactly how ryan sleeps) so we couldn’t get a great picture of it’s face today but we did get some great waves and hand gestures from the baby’s free arm! Even threw a peace sign up! The view from the top of the baby’s head looks exactly like Ryan’s! Definitely has the McCarthy ears! The heartbeat was at 143 beats per minute which was a little down from our last ultrasound but still perfect! Lastly, we told ourĀ ultrasoundĀ technicianĀ that we want to find out the sex with our family on Thursday evening, so to just tell us when to turn our heads from the machine. She never told us to turn our heads and then flipped on the lights. We asked if she saw it and she said she knew for sure, wrote it down and put it in a sealed envelope! We didn’t even notice!!! So we will still be very surprised on Thursday when we find out with everyone!

So this is the halfway mark. It is both exciting and a little scary! It is so great to be that much closer to meeting this little one but I still feel like we have so much to do! One thing is for sure, we just can’t wait to find out if we are having a little boy or girl! Well here is to the fun part and the next 20 weeks!

Those little McCarthy ears!!! I just love them already!

Chuckin up the deuces!

P.S. Sorry for the rough scans…think our scanner is going out šŸ™

My my Dionna!! What a beautiful sight! I am so happy for you and Ryan. You two are about to go on an amazing journey together. Parenting is the hardest, yet most amazing and beautiful experience. I cannot wait to hear if it’s a boy or girl! I remember being preggers in the dead of summer and couldn’t wear my rings either, but who cares! Love you both and we ALL miss you! XOXO
