Busy.

Last week was incredibly busy!!!

Ryan left Mother’s Day to go to New Orleans for the week, where he photographed a conference that was put on by his work. He worked at least 15 hour days the entire time he was there!

I stayed behind and put in some extra hours at my job because my boss went out of town. I also stayed with my Mom for a few days, one of which was her birthday! Between the extra hours and being pregnant, I was just exhausted and in bed and asleep every night by 9.

Ryan was supposed to come home on Thursday around 5:00 but his flight was changed in order for him to spend a few more extra hours at the conference. He didn’t get in till 9:00 that night! Regardless of both being exhausted, it was so great to finally see each other! We don’t do very well a part.

Friday, we finally got a chance to sleep in. We then got packed and ready to make the five hour drive to Cedar Ridge Colorado (Western Slope, close to Delta, CO) to photograph a wedding.

Heading into the mountains, it was such a surprise to see how green everything was. I honestly can’t remember a time where the mountains had so much greenery! The entire drive was just gorgeous. Heading into Cedar Ridge, we went through Grand Mesa National Forest and it was the most beautiful place I have ever seen in Colorado. When you first enter, it was almost desert like with red stone mesas and small cacti. As you climb, millions of Aspens appear, all in full bloom with the most perfect light green coloring. As you reach the top there was huge evergreens and snow still! Quite a sight to drive through so many different scenery’s!

The weather was perfect for the wedding on Saturday and everything was going so great….until I was able to humiliate myself in front of the entire wedding. As everyone was exiting the chapel, I went to step off the concrete slab in the front and just as I was going to someone brushed up against me and I completely lost my balance.  As I started to fall I had the quickest thinking ever. BABY. CAMERA. Thank God for these thick legs of mine that I was able to stay up on my shins so I wouldn’t fall on my tummy or drop the camera. Some nice older gentleman helped me up and someone grabbed a paper towel for my legs which now had blood running down both of them. I hobbled off behind the church and cried for a few minutes, mostly from the pain of two rolled ankles! But the show must go on, I put my game face on and went back out there and finished shooting. The rest of the night I was known as that photographer that fell! However, the people of Cedar Ridge were very kind and didn’t make me feel so embarrassed!! I was really worried about the baby all night, but when we woke up on Sunday morning Ryan put his hand on my stomach and all of a sudden I started to feel this tiny flutter. It lasted for about 10 minutes and was just the greatest feeling I have ever had. Almost like “don’t worry mom I’m ok!” This kid knows me so well already.

On our drive back, we wanted to capture some of the beauty that Grand Mesa National Forest had.  We also stopped in Glenwood Canyon and sat by the river for awhile. Very beautiful!

So happy to be starting a new and much less stressful week. Looking forward to the Cooke’s birthday weekend!!
